Need To Know" To Make Network Marketing Work For You

A number of years ago, I was asked to speak at a seminar about the
things I did to become successful. I had never been asked this
before so I started to jot down the things that had worked for me.
It turned out to be an informative seminar that I was asked to
present many times thereafter. The information that I presented
then still holds true today. Here are the Rock Bottom things that
you need to consider to make your business work.
1. Treat your
Distributorship like a Business: I have owned and operated my own
businesses for most of my life. I learned over the years that I was
the one to create the activities that produced results. I could
either do that by myself or I could get others to help. There were
many lessons to learn on the journey, the rules and regulations so
to speak. I found that if I didn’t pay attention then I would lose
and that the more I paid attention the more knowledgeable I became.
Knowledge is power. I found that this arena was loosely defined in
structure and many had problems being accountable and they allowed
the emotional situations of Life get in the way. I realized that
you need to apply the same work ethic for your self as you would
when you had a job. As a matter of fact you need to be more aware
as the Buck stops with you.
I found that the business doesn’t understand the emotional needs
you have it is based on Logic and numbers and thus you need to
balance the books to make it work. Treating this like a business
allows you to see exactly what needs to be done to keep you on top
and in a profitable state.
If you don’t understand what the rules are then you will fall
victim to the trap of ignorance. Networking is a sales and
marketing Business that has some of the greatest opportunities for
any individual to benefit from. The key is in understanding the
requirements. Like any other business they work based upon the
rules and regulations that were created in the beginning.
Treat your distributorship the same way you treated your job or
profession. Learn the ropes and understand the right way versus the
wrong way. Negativity comes about when something isn’t working. I
have found that if you don’t apply the right stuff to any situation
most of the time it won’t work. Learn the right stuff.

2. Know what you want
your Business to do for you. Many times you hear the need
to discover your WHY. You know the reason for doing the business in
the first place. I always got hung up here in thinking I need some
huge altruistic viewpoint that was all mighty. What I found out
over time is that what I really need to focus on was What I wanted
and What did I need to know to get that. You open up a business and
the main reason is to make money so you can pay the bills, live
your life and so on. What I wanted was for this business
opportunity to do the same thing.
If you know what you want then you can find out what exactly needs
to be done to get there. If you want to retire at 65 with an income
of $5,000 per month and you are 40 now, what do you need to do. The
answer in general terms is save money. The answer in specific terms
is you need to save 1,000,000 over the next 25 years and you must
get a 6% return at that time. 1,000,000 x 6% = 60,000 / 12 = 5,000
per month. So in order to get the 1,000,000 you need to save about
40,000 per year not including interest. So that’s what needs to be
done. Now you can figure out what this means in terms of your
business activity. Anything less is unacceptable.
If you don’t know what you want you won’t think about what to do.
Why you are doing this is to get what you want. The company plan
and track record of distributors will tell you exactly what needs
to be done to get you what you want.

3.You need to know how
Network Marketing works in Concept. This took me a long
time to get. It wasn’t realized until I had already put in some 20
years into the business. If we look at the job world you go to work
because you will get a pay check for that work. All you need to do
is show up and do the work. You have a Vested Interest in going to
work. If you don’t go you won’t get paid. Vested Interest is
defined as having an interest with the understanding that you will
get something for your time.
In our business getting paid is determined upon how much product is
sold by ourselves or by those we have recruited but there is one
more rule here that is slightly different. It’s called Qualifying.
Most if not all compensation plans have a rule that in order to get
your pay check you must have certain sales volumes completed. This
rule actually is responsible for making the whole business work. It
is the need to Qualify that stimulates the marketing activity. Over
time if the effort to qualify is greater than the prize then in
most cases you won’t do what is necessary yo Qualify.
Thus the business works when there is a prize that is greater than
the effort needed to qualify to collect. This is called Vested
Interest. I need to sell 100.00 per month to collect a check of
60,000 plus. I also need to make sure my leaders have a group sales
volume of 1,000 each. I have 6 leaders in this category. Am I going
to make sure the sales are made. Absolutely. I have a Vested
Interest to get the job done.
Network marketing only works when the need to qualify exists. Look
at History and you too will see what I have seen. But this is true
in all businesses. If there is no profit you will go broke in time.

4.You must know your
compensation plan so you know how the money is made. The
compensation plan is the plan. You start at the bottom and you
learn your way to the top but it is in understanding the numbers
that is so important.
All business operate on a basic rule that if it spends more than it
makes it will eventually go broke. You are the Boss here and you
must understand the relationship of work effort to compensation. In
order to get x number of dollars in return , what work must be done
needs to be where the focus is. If you don’t understand the plan
you more than likely won’t make much and you will most certainly
spend more than you make.
You also need to know the plan so that you can provide solutions
for others. Leadership is defined as setting up the activities so
that production can occur. This gives direction to those who you
recruit. Your business will do as well as you understand your comp
plan and how well you implement the plan.

5.You must have a Road
map. What’s a road map? Quite simply the plan of action and
activities that are based on getting you what you want. The
challenge with being self employed when you don’t have a bunch of
money on the line is that Life can get in the way and you can get
side tracked. If you only have time to loose and not much of an
economic loss there is a tendency to let things slide and therefore
a tendency to look elsewhere.
A plan of action and activities puts in prediction and it of course
gets you into action. The key being that in order to reach your
goal you must complete that which is necessary to earn that . Your
plan is the Road Map to follow and without it you are lost.

6.You must develop a
presentation based upon what’s going on in society. This is
a business all about communication. We contact people by
communicating. We present our story by communicating. We close the
sale by communicating. We develop relationships by communicating.
Every aspect of this business is going to be based upon our ability
to communicate. That’s the marketing business.
I ‘ve got an 8-track tape business that I would like you to look
at, would probably be a hard sale in today’s market place. What’s
unique and different about what you have and how does it fit into
society should be where your going here. You will soon see the
direction of your approach in number 8 below. You attract attention
by providing answers, ideas and solutions to those who need them.
If you look and listen to what’s going on in society you will be
able to write and develop your story and presentation so that it
stimulates the thinking process of those you speak to. If it is
exciting and full of the stuff they need then you have a very good
chance of succeeding..

7.You must understand
and know how to apply the tools of the trade. This is an
area that is most definitely not understood or utilized properly.
What are the tools of the trade. These are the procedures, systems
and techniques that have been developed by those in the industry
while they were building their business or sales organization.
There are many tools to pick from, from tapes to books to seminars
and now the Internet. They all have worked and not all of them work for
every individual, so you need to figure out what works for you.
There are companies that specialize in this arena and even a few
mainstream businesses handle information on this subject. There are
many Styles and Techniques out there. Your job is to find the one
that best suites your circumstance.

8.You must know what to
do and duplicate on a Daily basis. I call the daily
activity Interest Benefits and Plug In. This is the title to my new
book. I have found that this is the basis for everything we do.
It’s a concept and a mechanic all in one. Interest causes action
and benefits cause interest. By identifying benefits for yourself
and others can cause you or them to interested in plugging in to
get them. The more important the benefit the higher the interest,
the greater the action.
What you really want here is to learn how to be interesting and I
have found that it is knowledge that is key. The more interesting
the story , the more captivating you become. Tie this in to
benefits that are important and boy what a combination. What do you
want your team to duplicate? The answer is simple. You want them to
be able to get others interested enough that they plug in to the
action.
On a daily basis how do you get them interested should be the
number one instruction on your day planner. Couple this with an
intense promotional campaign and your on your way.

9.Leadership is
developed and success is learned. I have seen over the past
26 years in this business that Leadership is developed by creating
Vested Interest. In other words when one has activity below him/her
there is a natural tendency to learn what to do in order to get the
benefits of the work and effort. This could be called
responsibility and of course this is the basis of Leadership.
Success then is learned by doing the work, taking responsibility
and dealing with everything that takes place. You can read a good
book and listen to a great tape but until you actually do the work
nothing will happen. Learn what to do and do it and that in itself
will help you become successful.
I have also found that success is getting what you want but this
again is tied to doing the work and learning how to do it. It will
not happen in any other way.

10.Practice...Practice...Practice....Practice.
The old saying practice makes perfect says it all. Practice is the
basis of skill so the key to the whole program is to practice till
you get it right. You will even learn from the mistakes you make.
